UPDATED: Tacoma officer injured in motorcycle crash

UPDATED as of 2:40 p.m.

A Tacoma police officer was injured this afternoon when his motorcycle was clipped by a car on South 38th Street.

The 51-year-old officer’s injuries were not considered life threatening. He was conscious and talking at the scene, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said. The officer, a 22-year veteran of the Tacoma force, has been transported to a local hospital for treatment of foot and leg injuries.

Officers have South 38th Street from South Pine to South Fife streets blocked off for their investigation, Fulghum said.

Parkland man, passenger injured in I-5 crash

A Parkland man and his passenger were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Monday night after their motorcycle collided with a car on Interstate 5 in Seattle, the Washington State Patrol reports.

The impact threw the man and woman from the motorcycle which then crashed and caught fire.

The man and woman who were in the car were not injured.

The state patrol identified the couple on the motorcycle as Shane G. Doubek, 20, and Nikki L. Hooper, 19, from Va.

Their medical condition was not available.
