Fife police arrest man and woman in connection with Montana Amber Alert, child found safe

An anonymous tip this morning about a stolen pickup parked outside a Fife apartment complex helped officers find a 1-year-old Montana boy who was the subject of an Amber Alert after he was reportedly abducted Saturday night, according to Fife police.

Officers responded about 9 a.m. to the 5700 block of 23rd Street East, where they found and arrested the boy’s parents — a 28-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman — who were reported by Montana authorities as suspects in the abduction of the child from his custodial grandparents’ home and were thought to possibly be headed to Washington.

Amber Alert canceled for Marysville boy, 6

UPDATE: The Amber Alert has been canceled.

INITIAL STORY: An Amber Alert has been issued tonight for Venjamin Seth Wright, a 6-year-old Marysville boy who was last seen just after noon at 1350 Cedar Avenue.

According to the alert:

Venjamin is autistic, and has the mental capacity of an 18-month-old.

His mother, Shannan Christine Guest, did not allow Child Protective Services into her home when they arrived to do a welfare check on the boy, and she told them she would “flee the area if things did not go her way,” the alert says.

UPDATED: Snowmobilers stranded near Greenwater down safely

Update as of 6:57 a.m.: The snowmobilers have safely reached the snow park, where a King County search and rescue team set up base camp while searching for the stranded man and woman. Their conditions were not immediately known.

Initial post: Early this morning, a search and rescue team reached two snowmobilers stranded near Greenwater for two nights. They are expected to reach base camp around 7:30 a.m.

“Both people are said to be doing well at this point,” according to King County sheriff’s spokesman Charlie Akers.

Missing Tacoma boys found safe in North End

The two boys were huddled beneath two blankets, sleeping in a parking strip.

Bob Casey saw them about 8:40 a.m. when he stepped out of his house in the 1200 block of North Tacoma Avenue.

“I knew immediately what it was because I had just read the paper,” he said.

Casey called police to tell them where to find Zabian Welcome, 9, and Jeffrey Zupan, 11. Then he approached the runaways, who left Zabian’s home Wednesday night after a confrontation with a caregiver.

Tacoma police looking for 2 boys missing since Wednesday evening

Tacoma police are looking for Jeffery A. Zupan, 11, and Zabian T. Welcome, 9, who were last seen about 5 p.m. Wednesday.

They left Welcome’s home in the 5400 block of South Cedar Street, where they had been playing, Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

“They were together and there was a little confrontation, disagreement with (a female caregiver), which apparently upset them and they both took off,” Fulghum said.

Both boys have apparently run away before, though not for as long or together, Fulghum said.

Search warrant opening reveals details in Powell case


A witness told police that Josh Powell spoke of killing someone and disposing of a body, according to a search warrant unsealed this afternoon in the case of his father, Steven Powell.

The newly unsealed warrant also revealed that Charlie Powell, the couple’s son, said “my mom is dead” as early as January 3, 2009, shortly after Susan Cox Powell disappeared.

The warrant says Susan Cox Powell’s cell phone was found in Josh’s car after she disappeared and that he couldn’t explain why.

More Pierce County unsolved homicides, missing persons cases featured on website

Thirty six unsolved homicides and suspicious missing persons cases have been added to the Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers website.

The crimes occurred in the City of Tacoma, unincorporated Pierce County and elsewhere in the county between 1995 and 1999.

They are the latest open investigations to be featured on Crime Stoppers’ website. The non-profit organization has been slowly adding information about the county’s unsolved homicides since last year. Cases from 1995 to present are now featured on the site. Eventually, unsolved slayings dating back to 1960 will be put up on the website.

Seattle police find missing Lakewood man

A missing 62-year-old Lakewood man has been found and reunited with his family.

Seattle police located Victor Keith Myers, who suffers from dementia, Wednesday night, the Lakewood Police Department reported this morning.

Myers was last seen leaving the home he shares with his nephew. He had talked of doing some banking in Seattle and possibly handling retirement paperwork at the University of Washington.

Myers’ family reported him missing Monday.
