Fifth man to be arraigned today for 1988 Tacoma gang shooting

A 42-year-old man will be arraigned this afternoon in connection with a Tacoma gang shooting, believed to be the city’s first, from a quarter-century ago.

Terris Miller is serving time in the federal system for an unrelated crime. He will be the fifth man arraigned for the Aug. 28, 1988, fatal shooting of Bernard Houston.

Nathaniel Miles, Brian Allen, Anthony Ralls and Darrell Lee, all in their 40s, have already pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.

Rapist charged with murder for 1986 strangulation of Tacoma woman

A convicted rapist was charged with first-degree murder this morning for the 1986 strangulation of a Tacoma woman inside her apartment.

Christopher Leon Smith, 50, will be arraigned July 26 for the death of Carol Davidson, 46, a mother of five. He is currently serving a 50-year to life sentence in Walla Walla for a 2009 rape conviction.

“This is one of those few cases that actually played out as cases do on ‘CSI’ and other television shows,” Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said.

Three men charged in alleged drug hit gone wrong in Lakewood

 

A man Lakewood police believe took out a contract on a rival drug trafficker’s life, and the two men who allegedly bungled the hit by killing the wrong man, were charged Monday with first-degree murder.

Not guilty pleas were entered on behalf of William Alvarez Calo, Robert L. Smith Jr. and Mazzar Robinson to the murder count and other charges at their arraignment in Pierce County Superior Court.

Commissioner Meagan Foley ordered Smith jailed in lieu of $1 million bail, Alvarez Calo in lieu of $1.5 million bail and Robinson in lieu of $5 million bail at the request

Pierce County jury convicts woman of murder for running over friend

A Pierce County jury has convicted a Tukwila woman of using her Chevrolet Tahoe to run down her friend on a Tacoma street 18 months ago.

Jurors found Denise Larkins, 35, guilty of both second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the Dec. 16, 2011 death of Michelle Johnson. They returned their verdict Thursday after a trial that spanned two weeks.

Larkins is to be sentenced July 19.

Deputy prosecutors Phil Sorensen and Robert Yu argued during trial that Larkins ran down Johnson, 45, on purpose following an argument.

Tacoma man sentenced to prison for killing friend, stuffing body in garbage bin

A 22-year-old Tacoma man was sentenced Friday to 37 years in prison after being convicted in the shooting death of his friend, whose body he later dumped in a garbage bin.

A Pierce County jury in April convicted Anthony Tyrone Clark of first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Prosecutors asked for a sentence of 40 years. Defense attorneys wanted a sentence of 33 years, saying Clark has a low IQ and learning disabilities that impaired his judgment the day of the killing.

Fatal shooting in North End prompted by roommate’s confrontation with shooter

The fatal shooting of a man in Tacoma’s North End started when one of the victim’s roommates approached a neighbor as he was shooting a gun off his back porch, police said.

Several neighbors on North Ferdinand Street called 911 about 8 p.m. Thursday after hearing Michael Dillon, 51, firing a gun.

Tacoma man suspected of killing neighbor was paranoid, easily angered

A 51-year-old Tacoma man who police say shot and killed his neighbor Thursday night was paranoid, a heavy drinker and easily angered, according to neighbors.

Detectives have not determined a motive for the shooting, which happened about 8 p.m. outside the victim’s house in the 4600 block of North Ferdinand Street.

“They got into a disagreement and (the suspect) started shooting,” police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said. “We don’t know why.”

The suspect fired several rounds from his back porch before walking to the victim’s home and getting into a confrontation.

Lakewood man sentenced to 28 1/2 years in prison for shooting wife during counseling session

A Lakewood man who fatally shot his wife during a counseling session at a Federal Way church three years ago was sentenced this morning to 28 ½ years in prison.

Charles Parsons, 44, pleaded guilty in April to first-degree murder in the death of Carol Parsons, 38. The couple was married 12 years before divorcing in 2009. They had three children.
