Federal Way man killed in early morning accident on State Route 167

An 18-year-old Federal Way man died early this morning when the car he was driving drifted off State Route 167 and struck a roadside barrier in Auburn.

Washington State Patrol officers could not say Saturday afternoon if Pavlo Myronets was speeding. They’re interviewing witnesses to determine how he lost control of a 2006 Toyota Scion while driving north on the highway near the exit for 277th Street just before 5 a.m.

Federal Way police scouring area for bank robber

Federal Way police are searching for a man who robbed a bank this morning.

The suspect did not appear to have a weapon when he walked into a Chase Bank branch at 34624 16th Avenue South about 10:30 a.m., police said.

He fled with an undisclosed amount of money in an older model gray Chevrolet van with gold rims.

The robber was described as being in his 30s with dark skin, brown eyes and a bald head. He was heavyset and wore a hat, black pants and a black jacket.

UPDATED: Circuit break leaves more than 3,000 in Federal Way without power

A circuit break has left more than 3,000 people in Federal Way without electricity, according to Puget Sound Energy.

The agency announced the outage about 10:30 a.m. and said crews are heading out to make repairs.

It is currently affecting 3,303 customers in Federal Way and 326 customers in Poulsbo.

UPDATE as of 11:03 a.m.: Power has been restored to all homes and businesses in Federal Way, PSE says.

Volunteer firefighter grocery shopping helps evacuate Federal Way restaurant on fire

Volunteer firefighter Eric Forsythe was grocery shopping Tuesday night when he heard workers at the store talking about smoke outside.

He ran out the door, saw the exterior of the neighboring Kum Kang San Buffet was on fire, and rushed inside to evacuate the building, where people eating had no idea about the flames.

“I told (my wife): ‘I’ll be back in a second,’ and she kept on shopping, probably not realizing what I was doing, because she probably would have been upset with me,” he said. “But it’s what we do.”

Driver in fatal crash that killed University Place woman sentenced to 6 years, 6 months in prison

A Federal Way woman was sentenced Friday to 6 years, 6 months in prison for a fatal crash that killed a 48-year-old University Place woman last year.

Michelle Leigh Dittamore, 32, drank a tumbler of pink champagne and took a prescription drug known to cause drowsiness before taking the keys to her father’s sports car without permission.

Her 4-year-old son was in the passenger seat when Dittamore slammed head-on into Jana Lynne Berry’s vehicle June 7 after crossing the centerline on Pacific Highway South in Federal Way.

Police identify eight Federal Way officers who shot at gunman in apartment complex

Authorities today released the names of eight Federal Way police officers who shot at a man accused of killing four people at an apartment complex.

The officers were placed on administrative leave after the April 21 shooting at Pinewood Village in the 33300 block of 18th Lane South, which is standard procedure after a police shooting.

Shooter, two more victims of Federal Way apartment complex shooting identified

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office today identified four of the people fatally shot at a Federal Way apartment complex Sunday night and said they are still working to identify the last victim.

The shooter was Dennis Clark III, authorities said.

He is suspected of killing his girlfriend, Justine Baez, 24; neighbor Roland Scobee, 62; and Ceasar Valdovinos, 23, who was visiting someone in Pinewood Village in the 33300 block of 18th Lane South.

Jury finds Federal Way man not guilty of raping wife, sparking police standoff

A Federal Way man charged with raping his wife last year, prompting a brief standoff with police, was found not guilty by a jury earlier this month, according to the King County Prosecutor’s Office.

Kevin Creary, 40, was charged with two counts of second-degree rape following a dispute with his wife July 8 at the couple’s home in the 3900 block of Southwest 328th Place.
