Motorcyclist killed in Graham crash with car

A man riding his motorcycle in Graham was killed tonight when a car turned in front of him and the two vehicles crashed, Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The crash happened about 5 p.m. near 224th Street East and Meridian Avenue East.

Crews performed CPR on the motorcyclist, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, Troyer said.

No one else was injured.

UPDATE: Man killed in Purdy hit-and-run identified, suspect charged

A license plate left at the scene of a fatal hit-and-run in Purdy Saturday helped lead troopers to the suspect, who pleaded not guilty Monday to failing to remain at the scene of an accident involving death.

Christopher Kovacs, 43 of Gig Harbor, was ordered held pending $25,000 bail.

Troopers said Kovacs turned left in front of 21-year-old Jacob Daniel Converse, also of Gig Harbor, who was riding a Yamaha scooter south on state Route 302 at the time and died from his injuries, court records show.

Puyallup man killed after striking back of semi-truck hauling gasoline

A 46-year-old Puyallup man died Thursday night after striking the back of a semi-truck trailer, losing control of his vehicle and running off the road, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The accident happened about 10:45 p.m. on westbound state Route 512 at milepost 9 in Puyallup.

The man, who was driving a 2011 Ford F150 pickup truck, has been identified as David Rogers. The driver of the semi, a 39-year-old Vancouver man, was not injured. The truck was hauling 11,300 gallons of gasoline, trooper Guy Gill said.

Troopers said alcohol or drugs may have been involved.

Auburn man charged with second-degree murder for police pursuit that ended in death of passenger

Pierce County prosecutors have charged a 22-year-old Auburn man accused of stealing a car and leading police on a pursuit down Interstate 5 that ended in the death of his passenger.

A warrant was issued last week for Brian Sicade, who remains jailed in King County. He has been charged with second-degree murder, vehicular homicide, unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle and third-degree driving on a suspended license.

State Patrol seeking witnesses to fatal crash near Auburn Saturday

The Washington State Patrol is looking for witnesses to a car crash that killed an 18-year-old man near Auburn Saturday.

Pavlo Myronets, of Federal Way, was driving a silver Toyota Scion TC north on state Route 167 when he left the road near the exit for 277th Street. The vehicle rolled over and landed in a grass ditch.

The accident happened about 4:50 a.m. Saturday.

Troopers said several feet of skid marks were found on the road before Myrontes rolled his car.

UPDATE: Fatal car crash in Graham ruled homicide-suicide

UPDATE as of 3:30 p.m. The 19-year-old man has been identified by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department as Justin Bell. He was from the Graham area and was driving a 1996 mustang convertible in excess of 100 miles per hour at the time of the crash, Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Man dead, woman injured after motorcycle-BMW crash south of Gig Harbor

A Tacoma man riding his motorcycle died Saturday after a Gig Harbor woman driving a BMW crossed the center line about 7:15 p.m. in the 2800 block of East Bay Drive Northwest and hit him head-on, according the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

The 69-year-old man was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead after the crash south of Gig Harbor. He was identified by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office as Alex Heinz.

The woman, 71, was taken to the hospital for injuries, and is expected to be okay, Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.
