Fifth man to be arraigned today for 1988 Tacoma gang shooting

A 42-year-old man will be arraigned this afternoon in connection with a Tacoma gang shooting, believed to be the city’s first, from a quarter-century ago.

Terris Miller is serving time in the federal system for an unrelated crime. He will be the fifth man arraigned for the Aug. 28, 1988, fatal shooting of Bernard Houston.

Nathaniel Miles, Brian Allen, Anthony Ralls and Darrell Lee, all in their 40s, have already pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.

Man pleads not guilty after allegedly driving headlong into Pierce County patrol car, swinging at sheriff’s deputy after chase

A man accused of driving into a patrol car and then taking swings at a Pierce County sheriff’s deputy pleaded not guilty Monday.

The 46-year-old Tacoma man was charged with second- and third-degree assault and trying to elude police. He was held pending $500,000 bail.

According to court records, the man was driving a stolen vehicle and making random turns about 3:15 a.m. July 12 near 96th Street East and 48th Avenue East in Summit when deputies tried to pull him over.

Teen charged with assaulting 7-year-old Puyallup girl

UPDATED as of 1:05 p.m.: Prosecutors have charged the boy with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree rape, first-degree child rape and first-degree kidnapping.

He initially told police the girl got a bloody nose in the woods and he left her there, according to charging papers. He later confessed that he asked her to go into the woods with him to look at a bird’s nest.

The boy admitted to strangling the girl until she passed out but denied sexually assaulting her, court records show. He told police he dragged her further into the woods so nobody could hear her.

Pierce County man charged with beating wife, dog

A Pierce County man accused of beating his wife and dog during a fit of anger Friday has been ordered to stay away from them.

The 27-year-old man pleaded not guilty Monday to first-degree animal cruelty and three counts of fourth-degree assault. He was ordered held in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Deputies were called to the couple’s home Friday morning by the wife, who claimed her husband was furious their dog had chewed on a small trampoline.

She said her husband beat the dog with the trampoline, held it down with a leash while he strangled it and shoved her

Former Kent attorney pleads guilty to child pornography charges

A former Kent family law attorney who ran a business involving youth baseball faces at least 15 years in prison after pleading guilty today to production of child pornography, receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

David Engle, 49, of Maple Valley, is set to be sentenced Oct. 21. He has been in jail since his arrest in November.

Authorities began investigating Engle after learning he bought 184 items from an international movie production company that is currently being prosecuted for child exploitation. He made the purchases 2005-2011.

Suspected car thief deputies say faked paralysis to escape pleads not guilty

A suspected car thief deputies said faked paralysis to escape custody pleaded not guilty recently.

Justin Wetrich, 30 of Buckley, faces charges of attempting to elude police, first-degree possession of stolen property and unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, among other counts.

He was arraigned and pleaded not guilty Thursday.

Deputies said Wetrich crashed a stolen truck in Parkland in late May while attempting to flee law enforcement.

He was taken to the hospital after the wreck, and said he was paralyzed, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

Doctors believed him, and he later ran away, deputies said.

Mother, grandparents charged with severely beating 9-year-old Pierce County boy

A 9-year-old Pierce County boy told social workers he wasn’t allowed to attend school “because he told somebody he gets beat at home,” officials said.

The boy, who weighs just 45 pounds, showed signs of abuse like a bruised face and broken clavicle.

He told social workers his mother and grandparents kept him locked in a basement so he couldn’t sneak food, and they beat him with spatulas, hangers and pieces of wood.

UPDATED: Puyallup man suspected of groping woman held on $1 million bail

A man loitering behind a Puyallup store Tuesday night mockingly warned a woman she could be raped for being out so late before pushing her toward a fence and groping her, Pierce County prosecutors said.

Sean Bagley, 32, pleaded not guilty this afternoon to second-degree attempted rape and indecent liberties with forcible compulsions. He was ordered jailed in lieu of $1 million bail.
