Teenager ordered held in detention in attack on 7-year-old Puyallup girl

He grabbed her throat and squeezed until she stopped kicking and gasping for air,  he said, “so she couldn’t tell anyone.”

Now a 14-year-old Puyallup boy suspected of dragging a 7-year-old girl into the woods, trying to rape her then choking her unconscious is in Pierce County’s Remann Hall juvenile detention center, facing a possible attempted murder charge, among others.

Court Commissioner Craig Adams on Friday ordered the boy detained until Tuesday when prosecutors intend to formally charge him. Charges under consideration include attempted second-degree murder, first-degree child rape and first-degree kidnapping with sexual motivation, court records show.

Mother, grandparents charged with severely beating 9-year-old Pierce County boy

A 9-year-old Pierce County boy told social workers he wasn’t allowed to attend school “because he told somebody he gets beat at home,” officials said.

The boy, who weighs just 45 pounds, showed signs of abuse like a bruised face and broken clavicle.

He told social workers his mother and grandparents kept him locked in a basement so he couldn’t sneak food, and they beat him with spatulas, hangers and pieces of wood.

Lakewood man pleads not guilty to assaulting infant daughter

A Lakewood man has pleaded not guilty to second-degree assault of a child for allegedly trying to choke his infant daughter.

Pierce County Commissioner Meagan Foley ordered Grant Poutney, 21, held in lieu of $500,000 and ordered him to stay away from his wife and 3-month-old daughter.

The incident happened May 26 at the couple’s Lakewood home.

The mother went to the bathroom and when she came out, she saw Poutney choking their daughter. She snatched the baby away and ordered him to leave.

Puyallup girl, 7, sexually assaulted; teen arrested

A 7-year-old girl playing outside a Puyallup apartment complex Wednesday night was lured into nearby woods where she was choked and sexually assaulted, police said.

The girl had to be carried out of the woods once a bloodhound led officers to her but she was able to identify her attacker. Police arrested a 14-year-old neighbor boy.

“We’re blessed that she was found safe,” Police Chief Bryan Jeter said. “She’s a very brave, strong lady and we wish her the best in her recovery.”

The girl was taken to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in serious condition but is expected to survive.

Tacoma man pleads not guilty to harming his newborn son

An 18-year-old Tacoma man accused of abusing his 7-day-old son was ordered jailed Wednesday in lieu of $1 million bail.

Joshua Charles Paul Sullivan is charged with one count of first-degree child assault with aggravating factors. Deputy prosecutor Michelle Hyer said Sullivan abused a position of trust when he allegedly harmed his son in May. The addition of the aggravating factor could qualify Sullivan for a life sentence if he’s convicted as charged, Hyer said.

Court Commissioner Meagan Foley entered a not guilty plea on Sullivan’s behalf during his arraignment in Pierce County Superior Court.

Arrest warrant issued for Tacoma man accused of harming newborn son

UPDATE: Sullivan was arrested early Tuesday morning and booked into the Pierce County Jail.

He’s likely to appear in court Wednesday. The mother of the child told KIRO-TV that Sullivan “didn’t do it.” The boy has been released from the hospital and is in foster care, she told the station.

UPDATE: The defendant’s name is Joshua Charles Paul Sullivan.

Woman accused of throwing infant to floor made bizarre statements to deputies

A 35-year-old woman accused of purposely throwing her 3-month-old daughter to the floor Sunday made statements to arresting deputies about alternate dimensions and Hitler, court records show.

Anna A. Murphy pleaded not guilty Monday to a single count of second-degree child assault during her arraignment in Pierce County Superior Court. Court Commissioner Meagan Foley ordered Murphy jailed in lieu of $150,000 bail and prohibited her from having contact with children should she be released.

Bail set at $1 million for Roy man accused of placing infant daughter in freezer

An infant allegedly placed in a freezer Saturday to stop her from crying also had a broken arm, broken leg, blisters and head injury, Pierce County prosecutors said.

The baby’s father, Tyler Deutsch, pleaded not guilty this afternoon to first-degree child assault, first-degree criminal mistreatment and interfering with the reporting of a domestic violence incident. The 26-year-old Roy man also faces enhancements for aggravated domestic violence.

Commissioner Meagan Foley set bail at $1 million.

The 6-week-old girl is expected to survive but lasting injuries are unknown.
