Three injured in crash on SR 410

Three people were injured this morning in a three-vehicle crash between Bonney Lake and Buckley that shut state Route 410 down for more than an hour, according to East Pierce Fire & Rescue.

One of the drivers slowed down to turn left onto 262nd Avenue East and was struck from a vehicle behind, which pushed it into the path of an eastbound vehicle in the 26300 block of SR 410.

Firefighters had to extricate one of the drivers.

The accident happened about 8 a.m., shutting down both directions of SR 410. Lanes reopened shortly before 10 a.m.

Suspected car thief deputies say faked paralysis to escape pleads not guilty

A suspected car thief deputies said faked paralysis to escape custody pleaded not guilty recently.

Justin Wetrich, 30 of Buckley, faces charges of attempting to elude police, first-degree possession of stolen property and unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, among other counts.

He was arraigned and pleaded not guilty Thursday.

Deputies said Wetrich crashed a stolen truck in Parkland in late May while attempting to flee law enforcement.

He was taken to the hospital after the wreck, and said he was paralyzed, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

Doctors believed him, and he later ran away, deputies said.

Man trapped in pickup after collision on Sumner-Buckley Highway

Crews with East Pierce Fire & Rescue were forced to cut open a pickup to rescue the driver following a wreck Friday near Buckley.

The crash occurred about 6 p.m. in the 26300 block of Sumner-Buckley Highway when the pickup ran into the back of a silage truck, firefighters said.

Crews closed the highway for about 30 minutes while they extracted the pickup’s driver.

“It required a fairly lengthy extrication to remove the drive,” battalion chief Jay Adams said.

The driver and passenger of the pickup were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, firefighters said.

State Patrol: Buckley woman injured when she hits light pole on state Route 164 in Auburn

A 74-year-old Buckley woman was injured this morning when her vehicle drifted to the shoulder of state Route 164 in Auburn and knocked over a light pole that blocked at least part of the road for nine hours, according to the State Patrol.

The woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center. Her condition was not immediately available.

Troopers said the crash happened about 8 a.m. on westbound state Route 164 at 156th Avenue Northeast.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated.

Family searching for missing Bonney Lake teenage girl

The family of a missing 16-year-old Bonney Lake girl is asking for the public’s help in bringing her home.

Hailey Medford was last seen May 8 at White River High School in Buckley. Her stepmother said she may have been picked up by her boyfriend’s mother but has been unable to contact the woman.

Bonney Lake police said Hailey is listed as a runaway. Officers are investigating her whereabouts.

Anyone with information can call the Bonney Lake Police Department at 253-863-2218.

Hailey’s parents have created a Facebook page aimed at locating her.

Buckley man charged with vehicular homicide after hitting teen walking with girlfriend in Enumclaw on Halloween

A 20-year-old Buckley man has been charged with vehicular homicide for allegedly using marijuana and oxycodone before driving and hitting a 16-year-old boy who was walking on the shoulder of state Route 410 in Enumclaw on Halloween night.

Cody Money was arrested Wednesday, and his bail was set at $50,000. His arraignment is scheduled for March 21.

According to charging papers:

Money was driving a silver 2005 Nissan Titan pickup that hit 16-year-old Justin Relethford about 8 p.m. on Oct. 31, 2012.

Relethford died at the scene from his injuries. His 15-year-old girlfriend, whose hand he was holding just before the crash,

Convicted sex offender gets second life term in rape of Buckley girl

A convicted sex offender already serving life in prison without the possibility of parole received a second life sentence today for raping a Buckley girl in 1995.

Pierce County Superior Court Judge Frank Cuthbertson handed down the sentence to Donald Schneider, 53. Schneider pleaded guilty to first-degree child rape last month.

Forensics technicians last year matched DNA evidence collected in the 1995 rape to Schneider. He was brought back from the state penitentiary in Walla Walla to answer the newest charges against him.

Former Buckley councilman sentenced for child rape

A former Buckley city councilman was sentenced today to 10 years, 11 months in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree child rape and indecent liberties.

Randy Reed, 55, will only serve 12 months in Pierce County Jail because he qualified for a special sentencing alternative since he is a first-time offender and knew the three victims.

Pierce County prosecutors claimed Reed sexually abused the 7-year-old daughter of a woman he knew and molested two teenage girls he also knew.

The remainder of Reed’s sentence was suspended but he will have to register as a sex offender and be on lifelong
