Partygoers at a Spanaway home beat a 61-year-old suspected driver unconscious after he allegedly crashed into the house where the party was taking place, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

The accident happened shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday when the driver went through a wooden fence  and struck the front porch of a home in the 15100 block of 2nd Avenue East.

Several of the partygoers “took offense to the possibly intoxicated driver crashing and opted to assault the driver repeatedly,” sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Deputies arrived to find the driver unconscious outside of his vehicle. Some of the partygoers refused to back up and allegedly charged the deputies, who used an entire can of pepper spray to gain control of the situation.

Two men were arrested. The driver was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma.
