A 22-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured late Sunday after crashing into a rock wall and power pole while fleeing Pierce County sheriff’s deputies in University Place.

Deputies first noticed five motorcyclists speeding on Bridgeport Way around 11 p.m. The group stopped for a red light at Bridgeport and 67th Avenue West and deputies saw one of the motorcyclists motion to his buddies to block deputies in while he sped away.

The motorcyclist was weaving in and out of traffic and traveling about 100 miles per hour, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said. Deputies pursued the bike for roughly one minute before losing sight of him.

Deputies soon found the motorcyclist, who crossed oncoming traffic before crashing into a rock wall and power pole outside Chambers Creek Estate Apartments, 7320 60th St.
