The state has charged a nurse with unprofessional conduct for allegedly mentally abusing elderly clients and locking them alone in their rooms, according to the Department of Health.

Mary Anna Vanwieringen worked at an Enumclaw facility during the time of the alleged abuse, which ranged from March 2003 to November 2010.

Documents claim Vanwieringen mentally abused one client by yelling and threatening to punish him with isolation and ridiculed another man’s “personal preferences” and isolated him in his room.

Vanwieringen has not yet responded to the charges.
