A horse had to be euthanized after a Saturday barn fire east of Auburn, King County Fire District 44 spokesman Tim Perciful said Sunday.
22 horses were in the barn about 7 a.m. in the 21200 block of Green Valley Road when the fire started, one of which went to an emergency vet.
Workers at the stables where the fire happened rushed to set the animals free, and managed to release all but a few, which were rescued after the fire was under control.
Crews worked to give oxygen and fluids to the animals after the blaze.
The other horses appeared to be doing fine Sunday, and no humans were injured, Perciful said.
The cause of the fire was ruled accidental, but exactly what started it wasn’t determined, Perciful said, though it appeared to begin near a tractor.
Not including the value of the horse that had to be put down, the damage caused by the fire is estimated to be $200,000.
