A sprinkler system helped minimize damage at a Lakewood strip mall this morning when a fire broke out inside one of the businesses.

West Pierce firefighters responded to the business at 3901 100th Street Southwest about 8:30 a.m. and found smoke coming from the eaves of the building.

There are five businesses in the strip mall but only one suffered serious damage because of the sprinkler system, Capt. Jenny Weekes said.

Investigators are still trying to determine what started the fire.
