From the catch-up file:

Three teenagers stranded on a cliffside in Gig Harbor were rescued Sunday by deputies patrolling the water.

A sailor called 911 about 5:30 p.m. Sunday after spotting the trio on the sandy cliff about a mile north of the Narrows Bridge.

The teens, who range in age from 14 to 16, slid down the 100-foot cliff to hang out by the water but realized they couldn’t get back up once the tide came in, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

They were able to climb up far enough to get off the beach but couldn’t get back to the top of the cliff.

Deputies on the Mundell, the sheriff’s new patrol and rescue boat, responded within 15 minutes and were able to rescue the teens.

The boat was named after fallen deputy Kent Mundell, who died after a shootout with a drunken man at an Eatonville home in December 2009.
