Someone set fire to two cars in Tacoma early Wednesday morning, police and firefighters said.

The fires broke out about 1:20 a.m. in an alley in the vicinity of the 6700 block of Tacoma Avenue South, Tacoma Fire Department spokesman Joe Meinecke said.

A resident of the area saw his car on fire and ran outside to extinguish it, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said. While outside he noticed a neighbor’s car ablaze as well, Cool said.

Both fires appeared to have started inside the passenger compartments, Cool said. Both are being investigated as arson.

No injuries were reported.
