The boy who drowned Saturday in a stretch of the White River that runs through Mount Rainier National Park was Ahmad Asiri, the Pierce County Medical Examiner reported.

Ahmad, 8, was playing on a log when he fell into the river near the White River campground on the northeast side of the park, spokeswoman Patti Wold said. The boy’s older brother jumped in to try to save him but was unsuccessful, Wold said.

Rangers found the Ahmad’s body some time later, performed CPR and called in a helicopter to take him to the hospital, but he died.

The boy is from Saudi Arabia but recently had been visiting the Seattle area, medical examiners said.
