A man who was fatally shot by Lakewood police in Tillicum Tuesday night has been identified by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office as 28-year-old Patrick O’Meara.

Police said they opened fire on the man when he refused their commands and made a move they found threatening.

O’Meara was pronounced dead at the scene. His death was ruled a homicide, and was caused by multiple gunshot wounds, the Medical Examiner’s Office said. Those officials did not have a city of residence listed for the man.

The shooting happened about 11:15 p.m. in the 14900 block of Washington Avenue Southwest.

Officers received a tip that a man with a felony warrant was at a home there, and when they arrived and told him to come out, he refused and at one point pulled a gun, police said.
