Emergency crews were dispatched this afternoon to a report of a 4-year-old found in a swimming pool in Lacey, Thurston County.

Lacey Police said police and medics from Thurston County’s Fire District 3 were dispatched just before 4 p.m. to a report of a child drowning in the pool of the Diamond Head Apartments located at 1510 College St S.E., Lacey.

Upon arrival, Lacey officers found a father administering CPR to his 4-year-old son.  An officer took over the CPR until medics arrived. The child was transported first to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, and then airlifted to Mary Bridge Hospital in Tacoma.

Police said their preliminary investigation indicates that the father fell asleep and upon awakening, noticed the child had left the apartment. They said he immediately searched the apartment grounds and located the child, unresponsive, in the pool.  The father retrieved the child from the water, carried him to his apartment, notified neighbors and began CPR, police said.

At the time of the airlift from St Peter Hospital, the child’s condition was critical, police said.
