UPDATE as of 4:30 p.m. Both men pleaded not guilty, and the court set bail at $500,000 for each.
INITIAL POST: A father recognized his 15-year-old daughter’s photograph on Backpage.com Monday and called Fife police, who arrested two men suspected of pimping her and another teenage runaway.
Today, Pierce County prosecutors charged Samuel Miles-Johnson, 25, and Joshua Jones, 23, with promoting sexual abuse of a minor.
Both men are scheduled to enter pleas in court at 2:30 p.m.
The girl’s father told police a friend notified him that his daughter appeared on the website. He asked his brother-in-law to respond to his daughter’s ad on Backpage.com and arrange a meeting at a local motel. Once the man confirmed the girl was in the room, he told her he needed to get money from an ATM. He then notified the father, who called police.
Officers found Jones and Miles-Johnson outside the motel talking to one of the teenage girls.
They told police they didn’t know the girls but agreed to rent a room for them in exchange for sex, according to charging papers.
The girls were detained.
Jones pleaded guilty in 2010 to second-degree promoting prostitution and pleaded guilty in 2011 to first-degree promoting prostitution for pimping a 16-year-old girl.
