After more than a four-hour standoff with Pierce County sheriff’s deputies, a Spanaway man allegedly shot and killed himself early this morning, spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The incident started shortly after 11 p.m. when deputies went to a house near 161st Street South and Pacific Avenue South to serve a DUI warrant on the man.

As deputies approached the home, a man allegedly fired several shots at them from a second-story window.

No deputies were injured. They called for backup and used to tear gas in an effort to force the man from the home.

When they entered the home about 3:30 a.m., they found the man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot. Troyer said a marijuana grow was also located in the home.
