UPDATE as of 3:30 p.m. The 19-year-old man has been identified by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department as Justin Bell. He was from the Graham area and was driving a 1996 mustang convertible in excess of 100 miles per hour at the time of the crash, Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

INITIAL POST: A crash in Graham that killed two men late Monday has been ruled a homicide-suicide, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

Just before 11 p.m., a 19-year-old man in a Ford Mustang crossed the center line near orting Kapowsin Highway East and 200th Street East and struck a Toyota Tundra driven by a 50-year-old man.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither has been identified.

Investigators said the 19-year-old was speeding more than 100 miles per hour.

When deputies went to notify the man’s family about the accident, they discovered a suicide note.

“He’d left a suicide note saying he was going to drive his car 120 mph into a pole,” sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said. “He got his car up to high speed to hit a pole and instead hit a truck, killing the other guy instantly.”

  1. This is a really sad story. The kind of young white men who had good lives ahead of them during the 1980s and 1990s are now demonized and suffering in a toxic system that harms them.
