A Fife man fatally shot by a SWAT member Friday after holding his son hostage for about four hours has been identified as 30-year-old Leonard Thomas.

Police said Leonard was depressed and intoxicated during the incident, which took place at his home in the 200 block of 55th Avenue East.

He allegedly assaulted his mother, who came over at Leonard’s request to take care of his 4-year-old son, and refused to release the boy after the grandmother called 911.

Police said he used his son as a shield and dangled him out of a second-story window before agreeing to bring him out to the porch and hand him over to the grandmother.

A SWAT member shot and killed Leonard after he grabbed his son and tried to go back inside the house.
