A 47-year-old man seriously injured in a motorcycle crash near Frederickson Monday night was an off-duty King County Sheriff’s deputy, Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

The South Hill area man remains in critical condition after the crash, which happened about 5 p.m. in the 7500 block of 176th Street East, Troyer said.

Family members and King County deputies are with the man at the hospital, Troyer said, and King County Sheriff John Urquhart has visited.

Deputies are still looking for witnesses to the crash, which may have involved a white van making a U-turn  in front of the motorcycle, Troyer said.

No other vehicles were found at the scene, but skid marks indicated the King County deputy stopped abruptly, investigators said.

The man was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and had no passengers on the bike.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department at 253-798-4721.
