A 40-year-old homeless man was stabbed in Lakewood late Monday during an argument with another transient, police said.

An arrest has not been made but Lt. Chris Lawler said detectives know who the suspect is and are searching for him.

“We believe they both were intoxicated,” Lawler said.

The stabbing happened about 11:45 p.m. in the 11900 block of Pacific Highway Southwest.

A woman whose truck broke down in the area was talking to the victim when he suddenly collapsed. She called 911.

The victim, who suffered a single stab wound, was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. He is now listed in serious condition and is expected to survive.

Police used a dog to search the area but were unable to find the suspect Monday night. It’s unknown what the two men argued about.
