Kidnapping charges have been refiled against a 36-year-old Tacoma man accused of trying to snatch a 3-year-old last year.

A second-degree kidnapping charge was dismissed against Tyrone Greene in October after he was found incompetent to stand trial.

Greene was civilly committed to Western State Hospital but is about to be discharged, court records show.

Prosecutors note he is “a high risk for dangerous behavior and re-offending.”

A competency hearing has been set for next month.

Greene allegedly tried to kidnap a child who was walking with a friend of the mother April 12, 2012. He grabbed the child and tussled with the woman until witnesses tackled him to the ground and held him until police arrived.

The officer who arrested Greene said he didn’t appear to understand and was “speaking gibberish,” according to charging papers.
