An elderly woman was injured this morning after driving her car off an elevated parking structure in Puyallup.

“It appears she may have had it in drive instead of reverse,” Central Pierce Fire & Rescue Assistant Chief Randy Stephens said.

Firefighters were called to the parking lot in the 120 block of 14th Avenue Southeast about 8 a.m. to help the woman, who was trapped inside her vehicle.

The woman apparently was trying to back out of a parking spot but instead drove through wrought iron railing and dropped 10 feet to the street below.

Crews cut her out and took her to an area hospital.
