He couldn’t abide his wife leaving and taking their five children.

After she accused him of cheating on her and began packing her things Sunday morning, the 37-year-old Tacoma man allegedly grabbed a Samurai sword off the nightstand and held it to her throat.

He then retrieved a handgun and threatened to shoot his wife and the children if they tried to leave the house in the 3400 block of East K Street.

The children range in age from 5 to 10.

When the man moved toward the bathroom, his wife quickly ushered her children out the front door and called 911 from a cell phone.

They hid in a neighbor’s yard until police arrived.

The man fled before officers showed up but was arrested later that night. He was booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of felony harassment, unlawful imprisonment, making death threats and assault.
