UPDATE as of 3:30 p.m. The 1100 block of Shaw Road is closed, and crews do not know when it will open.
A tree and power lines fell across cars in a parking lot at the west entrance to Green River Community College in Auburn, according to the school. Classes have been canceled due to a power outage. The Kent and Enumclaw campuses are running as scheduled.
INITIAL POST: This afternoon’s brief storm knocked power out to thousands of homes and businesses in Pierce and King counties.
Puget Sound Energy said a widespread outage was reported about 2 p.m.
It is affecting 1,000 customers in Sumner, 1,500 in Auburn, 1,900 in Maple Valley, 1,800 in Issaquah, and more.
The storm also prompted the closure of Shaw Road East from Pioneer Way East to 15th Avenue Southeast in Puyallup, officials said. Crews expect the road to remain shut down for an hour while fallen trees are removed, and say Puget Sound Energy will shut off power there.
The East Pierce Fire & Rescue union, IAFF Local 3520, said just after 3 p.m. that a tree fell on a house in the 12700 block of 53rd Street Court East, in the Sumner Heights area of Edgewood.
