UPDATE as of 6 a.m.: The man struck by the Jeep has died, according to the State Patrol.

INITIAL POST: A man is in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center today, after troopers say he ran into traffic on Interstate 405 and was hit Friday night by a Jeep driven by a Buckley man.

According to the State Patrol:

A 25-year-old Bellevue woman pulled over the Blue 2000 Dodge Intrepid she was driving about 11 p.m. to the right side of I-405, just north of the exit to 112th Avenue Southeast near milepost 9 in Bellevue.

Her 27-year-old passenger, a Seattle man, then exited the car and ran into traffic.

A green 1999 Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 21-year-old Buckley man, hit the pedestrian.

The driver of the Jeep was treated for injuries at the scene, and the Seattle man was taken to Harborview in critical condition, where he remains.

It does not appear either driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash, trooper Julie Judson said.

Troopers are still investigating what caused the man to run onto the freeway, she said.
