Puyallup police have recovered the vehicle used to run down a 15-year-old Puyallup girl nearly two months ago but have not made an arrest.

Anonymous tips led detectives to Yelm, where they found a white 1997 Chevrolet Suburban they believe hit Chloe Williams March 14 as she used a crosswalk in the 600 block of West Stewart Avenue NW.

The teenager suffered multiple serious injuries after the hit-and-run, including a broken femur.

Detectives took custody of the Suburban April 23 and served a search warrant on it Tuesday. Capt. Scott Engle said evidence has been recovered but declined to discuss specifics.

An arrest will likely not be made until lab test results on the vehicle come back.

“We do have a person or persons of interest in this case,” Engle said.

Williams was walking from her best friend’s house to Aylen Junior High to watch a basketball game when she was struck by the Suburban. The driver sped off.

She lay on the ground for about 15 seconds before another driver stopped to help.

Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call the Puyallup Police Department Tip Line at 253-770-3343.
