UPDATE as of 3:30 p.m. The boy has been identified by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Officer as 3-year-old Terric Davis of Tacoma. He died from blunt force injuries to his head and abdomen, and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the office.

INITIAL POST: Tacoma police have arrested a 28-year-old man suspected of killing his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son.

The man was booked into Pierce County Jail this morning on suspicion of homicide by abuse. He is expected to be charged Thursday.

The boy’s 23-year-old mother brought him to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday because the child was having trouble breathing.

Doctors noticed signs of abuse and notified police, who went to the couple’s home in the 7600 block of Pacific Avenue and arrested the man.

The boy died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

A 2-year-old girl was removed from the home and placed into protective custody.

The Medical Examiner’s Office is performing an autopsy today.
