After more than two days of sonar sweeps, officials have ended the unsuccessful search for the body of a man presumed to have drowned in Spanaway Lake Sunday.

“We won’t be searching again,” Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Crews searched about three-quarters of a square mile of the lake, which has almost five feet of silt at the bottom in some places, he said.

Divers searched for the man, and deputies used remotely controlled underwater cameras too.

The 55-year-old was riding an inner tube being pulled by a powerboat, when the float flipped.

He slipped out of his life vest and under the water, Troyer said.
