One man shot in leg in Tacoma shootout

UPDATE, 11:07 A.M.: The lockdown at Whitman Elementary School has been lifted. Lincoln High School was also on lockdown for about 15 minutes. “We determined that the suspects weren’t on either campus,” Cool said.

Cool said the people in the alley fled before officers arrived.

FIRST REPORT: One man was shot in the leg early this morning in a Tacoma alley, police said, and the investigation has a Tacoma elementary school on lockdown.

A half a dozen people called 911 around 10:20 a.m. this morning to report that several people were shooting in an alley at South 37th Street and South Thompson Avenue.

Officers arrived and found a victim shot in the leg nearby. He is expected to survive.

Whitman Elementary is on lockdown while police investigate.
