UPDATE 2: Troyer tells Lights & Sirens this morning that the dead man is not a soldier but the spouse of a soldier. We’re hoping to get more details of what happened later today.
UPDATE: Both the alleged shooter and the victim are Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldiers, Pierce County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Ed Troyer said. The death is the agency’s first homicide this year, he added.
INITIAL POST: A man called 911 about 6:25 p.m. tonight to report that he had shot someone at his Spanaway home, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.
Deputies responded to the 200 block of 162nd Street South, where they found a 29-year-old man fatally shot.
The 32-year-old resident who reported shooting the man is cooperating with deputies, Troyer said.
It appears the 29-year-old came to the house and the two got into a fight, but the exact circumstances that led to the shooting are still being investigated, Troyer said.
“It wasn’t a home invasion,” he said. “We believe these two know each other.”
The alleged shooter is a soldier, and deputies are looking into whether the 29-year-old has military ties, Troyer said.
“We’re not looking for anybody,” Troyer said. “These guys knew each other.”
