A discarded cigarette started a fire early Monday on the deck of a Tacoma home, causing $2,000 in damages, according to the Fire Department.

Firefighters were called to the house at South 16th Street and South Cushman Avenue about 4:25 a.m. and quickly doused flames on the outside deck. The blaze did not spread to the home.

The residents escaped and no injuries were reported.
