Speed appears to have been a factor in a crash at Point Defiance Park that killed a teenage boy Friday night, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.
Investigators are waiting for test results to see if alcohol was a factor in the crash, Cool said.
The boy’s identity has not yet been released.
He was one of four teenagers – between the ages of 15 and 17 – traveling in the car about 4:45 p.m. Friday along Five Mile Drive, when the 17-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle and it hit a tree, Cool said.
The boy who died was in the back seat, Cool said.
The others in the car suffered minor injuries, she said.
Police were still investigating whether the teens were wearing seat belts.
