UPDATE as of 1:34 p.m.: The motorcyclist has been identified as Craig Calucci, 29, of Puyallup.

INITIAL POST: A motorcyclist was killed in Parkland early this morning after losing control and crashing into a semi-truck before bursting into flames, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

The collision happened about 1:15 a.m. at 116th Street South and Spanaway Loop Road. Witnesses told deputies the motorcyclist was driving nearly 100 miles per hour when he missed a corner in the road, tried to straighten out and struck a logging semi-truck.

A deputy two blocks away heard the crash and was on scene almost immediately, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said, who added that the accident was caused by the motorcyclist “extreme reckless driving.”

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not been identified.

No injuries were reported to the truck driver.
