A Key Peninsula firefighter who was inside the Tacoma PetSmart when it caught fire is considered a witness rather than a suspect, Tacoma police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said today.
Police last week distributed a surveillance camera image of the firefighter, asking for the public’s help in identifying him so detectives could interview him. Within hours, the man contacted police.
Detectives interviewed him this morning and determined he had nothing to do with starting the fire.
No arrests have been made in the Feb. 28 arson at the Tacoma Central PetSmart, which caused $35,000 in damages. The store has not reopened.
