Tacoma police have arrested a 24-year-old man suspected in last week’s fatal motel shooting.

Pierce County prosecutors said they will charge and arraign the man this afternoon for the shooting, which occurred about 12:15 a.m. Friday ay the Morgan Motel.

Officers responding to a shots fired call and found Donald Phily, 42, dead in a room at the Pacific Avenue motel. Police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said it was a robbery gone wrong but declined to discuss the ongoing investigation.

The arrest happened about 12:45 p.m. during a traffic stop in the 5200 block of Bridgeport Avenue. The alleged shooter was booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of murder, robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm.

He is charged with two counts of felony harassment on an unrelated case. After bringing a friend overdosing on drugs to St. Joseph Hospital in January, the man was displeased with the medical treatment and threatened to shoot the nurse and a security guard who intervened, according to court records.
