Pierce County prosecutors today charged a Tacoma man with first-degree murder and first-degree child rape in the death of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son.

Bail was set at $2 million for Jake Musga, 19. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf. Authorities said Musga was watching Chayson Colley while his live-in girlfriend was visiting friends. A neighbor called 911 Saturday after a crying Musga showed them the severely bruised child.

Court records indicate the baby had alcohol in its system, multiple bruises from head to toe and bleeding in the brain and stomach. Musga told detectives the baby fell several times when he wasn’t looking and may have reached his vodka and cola drink, which was on the window sill next to the couch.

Musga started dating the boy’s mother two months ago after they met in rehab, according to charging papers.
