A 37-year-old man pleaded not guilty to second-degree child assault today, after he allegedly abused his four-year-old daughter by striking her with his belt and putting her in a cold bath for about half an hour.

According to charging papers:

Marcellus Noelval White hit the girl with his belt multiple times Sunday after she threw away her dinner, and he put her in the cold water to calm her down and make the injuries less visible.

The child was shivering when she got out of the bath.

Her mother told officers she saw White hit the girl about seven times with the belt.

The woman took the child to the Bonney Lake Police Department Monday morning, where the girl winced when she moved her left arm, which had welts, prosecutors said.

She was taken to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital.

White followed them to the police station, where he admitted that he assaulted his daughter, and was booked into jail.

He told authorities he was more upset with the mother than the girl at the time.

His bail was set at $150,000.
