Fatal shooting at Tacoma motel was ‘robbery gone bad’

A fatal shooting at a Tacoma motel last week started as a robbery, police said.

Donald Phily, 42, was staying at the Morgan Motel, 7031 Pacific Ave. Investigators believe he opened his door about 12:15 a.m. and was shot.

No one was arrested.

“We believe that was a robbery gone bad,” police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.
