It wasn’t immediately clear Sunday what happened when a Tacoma police car collided with a vehicle driven by two suspects in an armed robbery and residential burglary, but it certainly made Deanna Mroczkowski’s lunch more exciting.

The Tacoma resident was eating at a restaurant in the 4000 block of South 12th Street, when law enforcement vehicles started flying by, she said.

The suspects’ car hit the curb, then a light pole, and spun down the block until it hit another curb, and smoke from the tires made it hard to see the end of the crash, she said.

But a Tacoma police car was clearly damaged in the process, she said.

The suspects were fleeing what appeared to be a residential burglary elsewhere in the county and an armed robbery that happened in the city, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.

Further details of the alleged crimes were not available Sunday.

The suspects fled in a BMW near South 12th and Madison streets, and a pursuing Tacoma police car hit the driver’s-side door of the empty vehicle, Cool said.

Smoke obscured the suspects’ vehicle from the officer, Cool said.

No one was injured, according to police.

Both suspects were caught and taken into custody, Cool said.

The Tacoma police traffic unit was investigating.
