Five men and a teenage boy were arrested early this morning after breaking into a Lakewood elementary school, police said.

An alarm summoned officers about 3:15 a.m. to Oakwood Elementary School, 3230 South 85th Street. Police immediately spotted three of the alleged burglars running and took them into custody. The thieves dropped stolen laptops, cell phones and a video camera while trying to flee.

A K-9 team was called to track the other suspects, who were eventually arrested. Their ages range from 16 to 25, Lt. Chris Lawler said.

One of the alleged burglars told police the group had been drinking alcohol on the basketball court when they decided to crawl through one of the school’s windows and steal items.
