A patrol car that slammed into a light pole late Wednesday, shearing it in half, was totaled in the accident, Tacoma police said today.
Two officers inside the vehicle suffered minor injuries. It was not immediately known how much it will cost to replace the patrol car.
Department spokeswoman Loretta Cool said the officers were responding to a police shooting outside a Tacoma bar just before 11 p.m. As they drove east on Center Street, the officer behind the wheel slammed on his brakes and swerved around a car in front of him, causing him to lose control.
The patrol car hit a light pole near the intersection with South Tyler Street.
The other driver was not injured and did not stop after the officers crashed, Cool said.
