Officers responded about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday to a business in the 3500 block of McKinley Avenue, after a caller reported a patron had a gun and was causing problems, Tacoma police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.
Cool gave this account:
Officers arrived and the patron, who was then outside, walked away. The officers asked him to stop, he ran, and they chased him. As he turned into an alley, they told him to stop. They could not see the man’s hands. One officer fired a round, and the man went to the ground and complied with the officers.
Tacoma Fire evaluated the man, who was not shot and had not been hurt. He was taken into custody.
Protocol used after officer-involved shootings was started.
