A Tacoma police patrol car hit a light pole just before 11 p.m. tonight at the intersection of Center and South Tyler streets, after the officer driving swerved to avoid another vehicle while responding to a call, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.
The light pole was sheered in half, and Tacoma Fire responded to check the two officers who were in the vehicle for minor injuries, Cool said.
The patrol car had its lights on, Cool said.
She was not immediately certain if its siren was active, though said it likely was.
Information about the call the patrol car was responding to was not immediately available.
Center Street will be closed between South Tyler and South Mullen streets until crews arrive and take care of the pole, she said.
“It is actually in half and wires are hanging,” she said.
Further details were not immediately available. Check back for updates.
