A man charged with trying to elude police did so again as his verdict was read at the courthouse in downtown Tacoma Wednesday, deputies said.

Leroy Phillip Scott, out on $10,000 bail at the time, complied with officials by showing up for court.

Not so much when he struggled with an officer who tried to detain him and ran out of the courthouse once his verdict was read, Pierce County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jerry Bates said.

No one was injured in the scuffle.

It’s not clear what the verdict was, though one can assume.

“I’m sure he was looking at some prison time, and away he went,” Bates said.

The 33-year-old man took off up the hill from the courthouse, and deputies are still searching for him, Bates said.

A warrant was issued for the man’s arrest.

He was originally charged with attempting to elude a police vehicle and third-degree driving while in suspended or revoked status.

According to court records:

A Tacoma officer tried to find Scott July 16, as he had a Department of Corrections bench warrant and a domestic violence bench warrant from Tacoma Municipal Court. When the officer found the suspect in a vehicle, Scott fled with police in tow. He was later arrested. Scott has previous convictions for theft and assault, and pleaded guilty to a lesser charge when accused of second-degree robbery.

The warrant order Tuesday signed by a Superior Court judge includes a hand-written note: “No bail should be offered on this case.”
