The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for several mountain areas, including Paradise and Snoqualmie Pass, with up to two feet of snow expected to fall through Friday.
The advisory is in effect until 4 a.m. Friday. Other affected areas include Mount Baker, Stevens Pass and White Pass.
The snow level is around 2,000 feet today and will rise to 3,000 feet Friday before falling to 1,500 feet Friday night, the Weather Service reported.
Today’s high in Paradise is 25 with winds 17 to 22 miles per hour. Up to eight inches of powder is expected to fall today. The snow is expected to be heavier Friday – nearly 21 inches in the forecast – with a high of 28 and winds blowing up to 21 mph.
Due to the strong frontal system moving in, forecasters have also issued an avalanche watch.
“While the deep snowpack of mid-winter has been relatively stable during the month of February… heavy snowfall… strong westerly winds… and a gradual warming trend beginning Friday should cause avalanches to occur mostly in the new storm snow,” the watch warns.
The road to Paradise will remain closed today, according to Mount Rainier National Park.
