A Tacoma teacher extinguished a small fire at Baker Middle School Tuesday morning, according to the Fire Department.

The fire started about 9:10 a.m. after someone left a box of combustibles on top of a convection oven in the school kitchen. It eventually heated up and ignited.

While students were evacuated from the campus at 8001 South J Street, a teacher used a dry chemical extinguisher to douse the flames.

Firefighters responded to ensure the blaze was out and reset the alarm.
